The S.P.A. syllabus offers a 360 degree view of Self Protection,
this is achieved through a number of avenues.
Awareness: Using a colour coding method of threat assessment to avoid confrontation or prepare for a pre-emptive strike. Patterns: Set movements of key techniques repeated four times left and right handed to develop both sides equally. Focus Mitt Drills: 4 level of focus mitt drills, static punching and punching from floor to develop speed and power.
Shield Drills: Static kicking, charging and sparring used to develop endurance and real stopping power with hand and foot techniques. Fighting Drills: 5 progressive levels of fighting ranging from simple dodging to all-out no rules. Aggression Therapy: Turning up the pressure by introducing verbal onslaughts, provocation and role playing both passive and aggressive. Body Language: Line-ups and posturing incorporating Aggression Therapy, taking control of confrontations through deception. Take-Downs: Throws, locks and chokes against unarmed and armed assailants using knives, baseball bats, etc. and use of the Kubotan.
Ground Fighting: In Fighting Drill level 5 when the fight goes to the floor it doesn't finish, off come the gloves and the fight continues until one or other fighters taps out or is stopped by the safety observer.
Regular Seminars: Introducing students to some of the best exponents of other fighting systems available in the country today. To date we have enlisted Geoff Thompson (British Combat Association), Jim McDonnel, Bob Spour (Muay Thai), Kevin O'Hagan (Goshin Jutsu), Pete Robins (C.O.D.A.) as well as attending seminar arranged by other associations such as the W.K.F. with Hanshi Richard Morris (Jiu-Jitsu) and Shihan Brian Cheek (Jiu-Jitsu).
